What is Eco-Art Therapy?

In building an active relationship with nature, Eco-Art Therapy places special emphasis on embodiment and attunement through meditative states of deep looking, listening, and mindful creating in nature. This attunement often helps us to experience greater internal-alignment. When we are more internally aligned, our physical and emotional well-being is enhanced and supported. Being attuned to nature can also be spiritually beneficial, creating the sensation of being One with all that exists, and the experience of what it means to be human. When our relationship with nature begins to deepen, it can evolve into an expansive dialogue and connection with everything in life. This allows us to meet and bond with our true inner selves, as well as with the more-than-human world (plants, animals, bodies of water…) producing powerful moments of therapeutic insight and beneficial change.

You do not need to be good at art for it to work!

It is important to say that Eco-Art Therapy will not fix what brought you to therapy, but your weekly visits and dedication will help you to connect to who you really are and gain confidence in yourself. Each person’s artwork is unique, and means something important to the person who created it. I cannot know what your artwork means, but I can promise that I will do my best to help you to discover for yourself, the messages your creations hold for you!

How can an Art Therapist guide me to discover parts of myself?

As an Art Therapist, I truly believe that the creative process involved in art making is healing and life enhancing. The opportunity to create in nature with an art therapist can aid in expression of important issues, reduce stress and reconcile difficult feelings.

I’m excited by the opportunity to embark on this journey of art making and self discovery with you!

A letter to my future clients

A warm welcome to you!

I’d like to offer a little bit about myself and my approach to Eco-Art Therapy.

If we work together, you will learn that I take a humanist approach to Eco-Art Therapy. This includes providing my clients with tools and step-by-step processes to empower themselves and continue to see positive change in their lives outside of therapy. I share instruction and guidance in the cultivation of mindfulness, self-compassion, relationship with nature practises, and embodiment practises (linking the mind and body), as I believe these to be the foundational components of self growth and self worth, necessary for lasting beneficial change. My approach is centred around deep listening and holding space for my clients, no matter what arises during therapy. Each one of us is unique, and we all have our own story to tell, so I will always meet you where you are at. My practise is very client centered, so I will tailor therapeutic sessions specifically for you to suit your goals and artistic interests

On our therapeutic journey together, I will be there to hold space for you, while also being a gentle guide. I will be present to observe and guide you in discovering for yourself what it is that you need to see within your own artwork, in order to heal and move forward in life. I will not interpret your artwork- this is not possible- as you are the closest person to your own life experiences, so I cannot possibly know what your art means for you- but I can help you to discover that for yourself! Together, we will discuss and view your art as curious partners in discovery, to uncover the unique mystery that is YOU! This is the place where your inner strength resides, and sometimes it just requires some gentle encouragement to shine through. I invite you to work with me- to discover together- this unique inner voice and power that you possess!

I am a nonjudgmental witness to my clients’ artistic process, and personal stories, that lie within each of them. I truly believe that each person carries within them an innate knowledge of what they need to express through personal art making, regardless of artistic experience or skill. I support emotional expression and personal narratives, without judgment, while continually working to identify ways to guide clients towards powerful moments of personal insight, and strategies to achieve their goals.
